![]() ![]() Even when choosing a team, Othercide challenges us to consider the strategic implications. Despite the possibility of having multiple daughters available, we are only able to take three party members out into the field where they must fend off attacks from challenging foes. Additionally, the Daughters do utilize skills to bolster and buff each other in combat. Our Daughters are able to interrupt enemy attacks, delay an enemy’s action or use a reaction skill to respond to threat. Each class is fully fleshed out with unique skills that allows for a myriad of combat options. Our final class is the Blademaster - a high damage dealing, agile melee character used for quickly dispatching enemies. ![]() The Soulslinger is the gun toting, crowd-controlling piece necessary to do damage to a group of enemies. We have the Shieldbearer - the vanguard who creates opportunities for her sisters to attack by defending them. Each archetype has its own strengths and weaknesses. Each Daughter on our team specializes in one of three classes. We play as a group of women whom we only know of as our “Daughters.” We must defend the fragmented world from invasion of creatures from another dimension. The title’s Art Director, Alexandre Chaudret, explained each aesthetic detail was purposeful since lore was the main context used to drive challenging turn-based gameplay. It’s a bleak, monochromatic world with splashes of red as the only color. Beautifully haunting character designs and landscapes make it a memorable title. Its art direction is dark and gritty with a strong influence from the Dark Souls series. ![]() Before knowing anything about the game, first impressions were truly the greatest. Yet nothing in recent memory has tested the boundaries of Horror-Strategy like Othercide from Paris-based developer Lightbulb Crew. The strategy genre has just about every subcategory by this point - everything from alien threats to high fantasy settings. ![]()
